What’s Going There: Southern Shores luxury watersports community makes a splash

ST. GEORGE — Piles of lumber, tractors, workers walking around in hard hats – welcome to Southern Utah. The area’s growth is seemingly unstoppable, with new buildings and renovations springing up everywhere you look.

In this episode of “What’s Going There,” Southern Utah’s show about developments and businesses in the works, Tom Callister with Linx Commercial Real Estate stopped by Southern Shores, an exciting new community in Hurricane, for some fun in the sun.

The idea of surfing a sick wave in the middle of the desert might seem impossible, but Southern Shores specializes in transforming dreams into reality. They have the world’s only private UNIT surf pool in a residential community. Its unique design creates authentic surf with zero water consumption and sustainable, energy-efficient operation.

“This is the buzz of the town,” Callister said. “Everybody wants to know about this surf wave.”

Southern Shores offers a luxurious resort-style experience with watersports for the entire family. The community features 56 custom home sites, with 34 offering lakefront living with a private boathouse and dock. In addition to the UNIT surf pool, there’s also a cable-pulled wakeboarding lake and a boating lake.

“I think one of the biggest draws for people buying out here is that they can waterski, they can wakeboard, they can surf and do all the watersports they want,” developer Brittany Christensen. “We consider it a watersports community.”

Bringing a whole new meaning to “staycation,” Southern Shores features 80 acres of prime real estate only a half-hour drive from Zion National Park and just minutes away from Sand Hollow State Park. Lots are still available, and home construction is planned to begin this fall.
