BEAVER — A young child was flown to the hospital after nearly drowning in a river on Tuesday evening, authorities said.

Although the child was not named in the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office news release about the incident, multiple public social media posts have identified him as Levi Wright, son of rodeo stars Spencer and Kallie Wright.

Wednesday morning, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a heartbreaking update was posted to Spencer Wright’s Facebook page indicating that the boy is not expected to survive. The public post, which was made by Mindy Sue Clark on behalf of Kallie and Spencer Wright and with their permission, reads as follows:

Levi’s heart is beating on its own, he has a will to breathe but his sweet little brain was without oxygen too long and there is no coming back from that. We cuddled him all night and feel strongly that his spirit is no longer with us. We can’t be selfish and drag this out for days, he doesn’t deserve that. Shortly we will stop care and hold him close until his last breath on earth. My Baby, my beans, Mom & Dad love you always and forever!

“Please give them time to navigate through this process,” the post adds. “They will have more to share soon. Please send prayers for healing and comfort.”

According to the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office news release issued Tuesday night, county dispatchers received a call at 6:02 p.m. reporting that a child had driven a toy tractor into the water and that the reporting party had lost visual contact with the child.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Beaver County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Highway Patrol, Beaver County Search and Rescue, Beaver Fire and Beaver Ambulance, along with volunteers, the news release states.

“The above mentioned agencies responded and the child was quickly located,” the statement reads.

Authorities say lifesaving measures were administered on scene, after which the child was transported by ambulance to Beaver Valley Hospital where medical care was rendered until Life Flight arrived and airlifted the child to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Later, after the boy had been located and was receiving medical care, multiple friends and family members of the Wrights, including many of their extended “rodeo family,” pleaded on social media for prayers and support on behalf of Levi.
