CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — The Center for the Arts at Kayenta is thrilled to announce a dynamic collaboration with DOCUTAH, bringing a captivating monthly film series to the Lorraine Boccardo Theater.
This partnership aims to foster a deeper connection within the community through the art of storytelling on film, promoting education and creating an atmosphere of camaraderie.
DOCUTAH is renowned for its commitment to opening hearts and minds to the world through beautifully crafted stories on film. With a mission to inspire, inform and entertain, DOCUTAH has become a beacon for film enthusiasts seeking thought-provoking narratives that transcend cultural boundaries.
On Friday, Feb. 2, the Kayenta Art Village will celebrate this new partnership with live music, snacks and beverages at 6:30 p.m., prior to the film. Beginning March 1, the village will come alive every First Friday with a vibrant pre-film experience featuring fun, food and live music beginning at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to arrive early to socialize with friends, meet new people and take part in the sense of community that defines the Kayenta experience.
The inaugural film of this exciting series is “Monsterman.” This riveting documentary follows the journey of Mr. Lordi, the monster of Lapland, and his horror metal band, which shockingly won the Eurovision Song Competition in 2006 only to face the subsequent loss of almost everything. “Monsterman” delves into the quest of the man behind Mr. Lordi, exploring the challenges he faces as he strives to stay true to himself and orchestrate a remarkable comeback.
“We are thrilled to partner with DOCUTAH to bring a diverse selection of impactful documentaries to the Center for the Arts at Kayenta,” said Miranda Wright, executive director of the Center for the Arts at Kayenta. “The power of film to inspire, educate and connect people aligns seamlessly with our mission, and we are excited to provide a platform for our community to come together and experience these stories.”
The Center for the Arts at Kayenta is quickly becoming a premier arts center for all artistic disciplines. With a refreshed approach to the art of film, this monthly DOCUTAH series joins two other film initiatives in Kayenta: the summer Cinesizzle in July, which showcases 12 narrative films from various independent film festivals across the country, and a new involvement in the Sundance Utah Community Program.
Upcoming films in the monthly DOCUTAH series include the following:
- Feb. 2: “Monsterman,” 84 minutes.
- March 1: “Art for Everybody.”
- April 5: “Max Steiner: Maestro of Movie Music,” 80 minutes.
- May 3: “Tour of Honor,” 54 minutes.
- June 7: “Song for Our People,” 60 minutes.
