What’s on the Menu: Puerto Vallarta Jalisco | Sponsored by CasaBlanca Resort & Casino

ST. GEORGE — The crew of “What’s on the Menu” took their show on the road this week, braving the icy cold of Cedar City to try some spicy Mexican fare at Puerto Vallarta Jalisco.

Host Sheldon Demke and his special guest, Spencer McLaughlin from The Fan Sports Network, were treated to three amazing dishes by the cordial staff. They started with the chicken chimichanga, a flour tortilla filled to the brim with delicious shredded chicken, then deep-fried to perfection and smothered in sauce.

Next came the carne asada plate. Char-grilled skirt steak, beans, rice, pico de gallo, grilled onions and jalapeño with fresh corn tortillas on the side.

Demke and McLaughlin also enjoyed some drinks, including the michelada, with tomato juice, lime juice, salt and beer, and the mangonada, featuring tequila, fresh mangoes and spicy chamoy sauce.

Last, but certainly not least, they feasted on the Siete Mares platter. Spanish for “Seven Seas,” it’s an array of the finest seafood Southern Utah has to offer, and plenty of it. Shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops, octopus and crab claws in a traditional Mexican broth served with fresh vegetables and rice.

“That’s just popping with flavor,” McLaughlin said. “Siete Mares, you’ve got it all there.”

Like the seaside Mexican resort town for which it was named, Puerto Vallarta Jalisco takes pride in authenticity and traditional flavors. Everything is made fresh daily, including the tableside guacamole. The restaurant recently welcomed a new owner, and its menu is evolving to offer more popular dishes that locals are sure to enjoy.
