Paper Jams: Strolling down memory lane with singer-songwriter Lacey Williams

FEATURE — Live music has returned to Southern Utah, and the Canyon Media crew is back to highlighting local musicians, so gather around for another session of “Paper Jams.”

Gentry Music & Arts recently welcomed Lacey Williams, a musician and music teacher based in the St. George area. With her husband Drew on guitar, she played some songs from her new EP, “The Apple and the Tree.”

Williams started with the title track, which she said is all about families and how they make us who we are. She also played “Cut ‘n’ Curl,” a playful country ode to small-town beauty salons. The song was inspired by her grandmother, who grew up in rural Wayne County and visited the same hairdresser for 40 years.

“I always joke that if you want to know what’s going on in a town, then the place to go is the hairdresser,” Williams said. “She knows it all.”

Alongside her music career, Williams is a full-time educator at the Vista School in Ivins, where she teaches sixth-grade students about the craft of songwriting. She often performs with her husband as Drew & Lacey, but this EP marks her solo debut.
