Four downtown St. George Historic District walking tours will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, with all tours to originate at the Pioneer Courthouse/Daughters of Utah Pioneers parking lot, 97 East St. George Boulevard. The free tours are sponsored by the Washington County Historical Society.

Tour participants with vehicles are encouraged to use the Zions Bank parking lot at 40 E. St. George Boulevard, or the 5-story covered-parking garage directly south of Zions Bank, or the St. George Chamber of Commerce parking lot, 136 N. 100 East, north of St. George Boulevard, or the Pioneer Square parking lot at 97 E. St. George Blvd.

The DUP Museum has a lecture scheduled for 10 a.m. the same day so parking in the Pioneer Square parking lot could become crowded.

Participants should wear walking shoes and bring a jacket for cool weather. Participants will learn unique bits of history about various historic buildings along the tour.

The tour schedule is as follows:

  • Town Square Block Tour, led by local businessman Jim McArthur, begins at 9:45 a.m.
  • Green Gate Village Block Tour, led by local landscape historian Susan Crook, begins at 10 a.m.
  • Ancestor Square Block Tour, led by retired author, educator and journalist Loren Webb, begins at 10:15 a.m.
  • Pioneer Courthouse (Square) Block Tour, led by local businessman and member of the former Pickett Lumber family-owned business, Bruce Pickett, begins at 10:30 a.m.
All tours will last approximately one hour.
