St. George Art Museum hosts wearable art fashion show

ST. GEORGE – The St. George Art Museum invites artists, art teachers, students and other creative individuals in teams of not more than five to join in the fun of creating wearable art. Teams will then compete for prizes in a Fashion Show on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. to celebrate the museum’s current fiber art show called “Twisted, Woven, Spun and Wrapped.”

The rules are simple. Garments must be constructed ahead of time and be ready to exhibit in the fashion show. Garments must be constructed with original materials such as paper, natural fibers, handmade fabric or anything else, which can be “twisted, woven, spun or wrapped” but may not be made using commercial patterns or fabrics.

To participate, teams are required to submit an email to museum@sgcity.org no later than Dec. 1. The email must include the name of your school, organization and/or team name, along with the name, age and school (if applicable) of each team member. Museum staff will also need to know the name of the model for the fashion show and the contact information of the teacher or team leader, as well as a brief description of the garment.

Teams selected to display their creations, based on information provided, will be notified by phone or email on Dec. 2.

The St. George Art Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 47 E. 200 North. According to the museum mission statement, the city-owned and operated facility exists “to educate … through quality exhibitions from all periods, cultures and media … and to collect, conserve, inventory, exhibit and interpret art and artifacts from Utah and the West.”
