ST. GEORGE — The Washington County Republican Party is proud to support the Washington County College Republicans and Turning Point USA at Utah Tech University in presenting Phil Lyman and Riley Gaines. The event will be focused on protecting Utah’s Female Athletes.

Ms. Gaines competed with the University of Kentucky NCAA swim team. She was the 2022 Southeastern Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year. That same year, she tied for fifth place with University of Pennsylvania simmer Lia Thomas, who became the first openly trans-woman champion in the NCAA women’s division after winning the 500-yard freestyle.

Since her time in college sports, she has campaigned against the participation of trans-women in women’s sports. This has included appearing as a witness at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing focused on safeguarding civil rights for LGBTQ Americans. This included sharing her “own personal experience competing with trans swimmer Lia Thomas and having to share the same dressing room.”

The event will take place at Utah Tech University at 225 University Ave., St. George, UT 84770. This will be on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 7 P.M. This is a fundraising event for Phil Lyman, who is running for Governor for Utah. Tickets are available now at
