My wife and I moved to St. George two years ago to care for my wife’s mother – a disabled Air Force veteran – and her grandmother who lives alone in Mesquite. In addition to that, we routinely fly to San Antonio, Texas, every other month to visit my wife’s father – also an Air Force veteran – who is in a nursing home after a massive stroke.
Our intent once we moved here was to transport my father-in-law to St. George so that we could visit him more frequently and care for his needs without having to buy a plane ticket or bug the staff at his facility. He does not get visitors, and most days he sits alone in his room watching TV (his remote recently broke so he can only watch one channel.
I almost flew out there solely to program a universal remote because the staff there couldn’t figure it out). After several setbacks (health decline, global pandemic), we are finally in a position to bring him out to Utah, only we cannot find a vehicle to transport him out here from Texas.
We have tried CruiseAmerica, El Monte RV, and all of the auto rental companies out there to see if there is a suitable vehicle to make this drive, and our search has failed to find any vehicles – let alone something suitable for him to lay down in a bed. His condition prevents him from being able to fly, so we are rapidly running out of options.
We are hoping to bring him out here at the end of June. We have coordinated a release from his current facility at the end of June, and he is scheduled to move into Red Cliffs Health & Rehab beginning in July. All we need is a vehicle. We are willing to compensate at a rate similar to what an RV rental would cost – around $2000.
I don’t expect this post to garner any response, but I’m putting it out there in hopes that somebody would be willing to lend us their RV or camper van to drive to San Antonio and back to bring my father-in-law here for the remainder of his life. Please contact me directly if you are interested in our offer.
