Heritage Writers Guild Sponsors Free Writing Conference

ST. GEORGE – The Heritage Writers Guild, the Southern Utah chapter of the League of Utah Writers, is sponsoring a free Winter Writing Conference for aspiring authors on Feb. 4.

The 2023 Writing Conference will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Udvar-Hazy Building on the Utah Tech University-Dixie Campus located at 255 S. University Avenue in St. George.

Award-winning author and past president of the League of Writers, Johnny Worthen, will serve as keynote speaker. Be ready for a lot of laughs (and tender insight) as he kicks off the conference at 10 a.m. in the Boeing Room with his address, entitled “Eleven Years into My Ten-Year Plan.” Johnny will share with us his experience on the writer’s path, what he’s learned the hard way and gleaned from reflected knowledge, and what keeps him going in this very strange industry.

At 11 a.m. the conference will split into two parallel tracks, one on the writing process and the other on getting published. Track 1 will be held in Room 203, beginning with a presentation on poetry by 2015 Utah Poet of the Year Candy Fowler, and following with “Writing Your Story” by Utah Tech University Creative Writing Professor Stephen Armstrong, and “Kids Lit: Read Then Writer” by Marilyn Richardson.

Track 2 will be held in Room 219 and includes “A Kick in the Creative Behind” by Joe Gordon, “So You Want to Get Published” by JJ Abernathy, and “The Faceted Story” by keynoter Johnny Worthen.

Though the conference is free to the public, space is limited by the classroom size. To pre-register online, point your browser to: https://www.heritagewritersguild.com/winterconference

WinterCon is your chance to kick-start your writing in 2023. Come join us! And bring a friend. This could be the year you put pen to paper to write that story inside you just waiting to be told.
