Drift school now open in St. George!

With over 10 years of drifting experience, the team at Scoundrel’s MotorSports has opened the doors to “The Scoundrel’s Drift Clinic” in St. George. They offer half-day, full-day, and two-day courses where students learn all aspects of car control and defensive driving techniques.

If you, or anyone you know has ever wanted to learn how to drift your car – this is the place to go.

The courses take place in a private lot, closed-off from the public. Spectators are not allowed during training unless accompanying a student.

Courses are limited to six students per course, to ensure adequate one-on-one instruction for each student.

On your first day, you will learn five basic car-control techniques.

These techniques are:
1. J-turns
2. Consistent, controlled donuts
3. Figure 8s
4. Clutch-kicks
5. Counter-steering

Once you’ve mastered these five techniques, you will be confident in controlling your car and can move on to more advanced techniques such as initiating a drift into a corner and learning how to carry the drift throughout the corner.

You don’t need a purpose-built drift car to attend, just a car that is rear-wheel-drive and has a manual transmission.

With students traveling from all over to attend, the team has been busy holding classes at their St. George location every weekend.

The instructors are veterans of the sport and have a wealth of knowledge regarding everything drifting. From how to properly set up your car to perform well during a drift, to what techniques will better suit each car and driver.

Each of the two instructors has over 10 years of experience drifting all sorts of cars.

They each have their own personal, fully-built drift cars that are present during each course to allow students to look them over for ideas on how to properly set up a car for these maneuvers. They are also used as demonstration vehicles to show students proper technique, as well as let the students ride-along in a properly setup drift car.

Chase Garrett has been drifting since 2007 and has experience driving on race tracks all over the country with drivers of all skill levels, from grassroots to the pros. His personal vehicle of choice is a Mazda RX-7 powered by an American V8.

Having resided in Southern Utah for nine years, Chase has opened the doors to “The Scoundrel’s Drift Clinic” in an effort to grow the local car community, and offer a safe space for anyone to come and have fun driving their vehicle aggressively, and also learn car control techniques that not only apply to drifting- but any aspect of defensive driving.

Dominic Harness, much like Chase, has been drifting for over 10 years. Instructing, competitions, sponsorships, judging and drifting with the pros has only pushed him deeper into the sport. He is excited to embark on this venture and share his love of drifting with the world, and further grow the sport here in St. George.
