CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — Geological treasures are everywhere you look in Southern Utah, but there’s only one special kind of rock worth a bundle of money from Summit Athletic Club. Grab your family and friends to hit the trails and make memories together while you search for your chance to become a “rock star” during the 12th annual Find the Summit Rock contest.

Find the Summit Rock has grown into a beloved summertime tradition for Southern Utah locals, and Summit Athletic Club has once again joined forces with Canyon Media’s radio stations to host this epic riddle-solving adventure. Over the next three weeks, they’ll be giving away up to $33,000 in cold, hard cash.

“People always tell us how much they love it. They get to spend a lot of quality time together just out walking the beautiful trails and getting to know the area, but also getting to know each other,” Summit Athletic Club owner Joe Levine said. “It’s a lot easier to meet people and spark up a conversation when you see each other wearing the shirt. We know people that have met doing this and actually got married.”

Each rock is worth $10,000 if discovered while wearing the official 2024 Find the Summit Rock T-shirt; otherwise, the payout is $5,000. A limited quantity of T-shirts are available to purchase for $15 each at Summit Athletic Club’s three St. George locations on River Road, Bluff Street and Sunset Boulevard. Buying a T-shirt also grants non-members free access to Summit Athletic Club throughout the month of June.

It all starts on Tuesday, May 28, with the unveiling of the first clue at 8 a.m. Clues will be discussed live on air during the morning show on all Canyon Media stations and posted on the Instagram feeds of both Summit Athletic Club and the radio stations. Rock hunters can also visit any of Summit Athletic Club’s locations in person for clues and ideas on its location.

“It’s just a fun way to get the community out,” Levine said. “The exercise sneaks up on you. You might be out there walking 10,000 or 20,000 steps, but you don’t notice it because you’re having so much fun.”

A bonus clue for the first rock will be available exclusively to everyone who attends the Summit Rock Kick Off Party on Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. Hosted by Summit Athletic Club’s River Road location, it’s a fun family event featuring live music, food trucks, pickleball, cornhole, a talent show, a belly flop contest and more. Everyone is welcome, regardless of whether or not they’re a member. Click here to RSVP.

Once the first rock has been found, the contest will start all over again on Monday, June 3, with clues about the location of the second rock. A new clue will be revealed on the radio and via Instagram every morning at 8 a.m. through Friday or until someone finds the rock. To get a head start, swing by Summit Athletic Club to see the clue as early as 7:30 a.m. each day.

As soon as the second rock is discovered, the search for the third and final rock will begin on Saturday, June 15. It’s a one-day-only event, and clues will begin at 8 a.m. on the radio. Time is of the essence, so be sure to tune in. Listen live and keep checking Instagram for additional clues throughout the day until the rock is found.

Levine and the team at Summit Athletic Club started the contest as a way to give back to the community while encouraging Southern Utahns to get outside and be active. However, it’s about so much more than simply finding the Summit Rock. It’s also a golden opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends, working together to figure out the goofy riddles that can lead to an epic payday.

“If you get something out of this, you’ve won. Maybe it’s exercise, maybe it’s a new friendship,” he said. “It’s the hunt, you know? It’s the journey. You’re out there and you’ve got this hope, and that’s what life is about.”
