ST. GEORGE — Scorpio season begins, and a partial lunar eclipse culminates the eclipse series in Taurus and Scorpio that began in 2021.

On Sunday, Oct. 22, both Mercury and the sun will join Mars in the fixed water sign of Scorpio. Signifying the death and rebirth cycle, Scorpio season comes at a time when fallen leaves disintegrate back into Earth, and day surrenders to night.

Ruled by the eighth house, Scorpio is a sign that does not give up. Powers of focus and passion prevail. Likened to the Phoenix that rises from the ashes, Scorpionic energy triggers transformation on a deeply psychological level, especially in terms of desires and how we use and exchange power.

In the book, “Forces of the Zodiac,” authors Robert Leichtman and Carl Japikse describe Scorpio season as a time when we are brought face to face with ourselves.

Prior forms of self-deception falter and our true character shows itself as it is, “its strengths, flaws, virtues, deficiencies, talents, egotism, potential, temptations, and its ideal design for growth and achievement,” the authors write.

As such, this is a time when challenges arise to help us mature. A failure to face our own imperfections may initiate a stagnation of spirit, causing us to drift back to the status quo of self-interest.

Scorpio season stirs up circumstances that ask us to consider our motivations. Are efforts based on self-serving outcomes or intended to serve the betterment of all?

Many astrologers consider this season to be a time when the veil between this world and other worlds wears thin, opening new pathways for ancestors or loved ones who have passed on to send messages.

As the week draws to a close, a full moon partial lunar eclipse will illuminate the night of Saturday, Oct. 28, in the fixed earth sign Taurus.

Though we won’t see the partial lunar eclipse in Southern Utah, its effects are astrologically profound, as it serves as the final eclipse in a series of eclipses that have occurred on the Scorpio-Taurus axis that began in November 2021.

Taurus stands opposite to Scorpio and represents the polarity of values, comfort versus power and the need to transform. Despite their polarity, the signs harmonize in their desire to establish stability within relationships.

Eclipses offer a course correction, which requires awareness on our part to see what is presenting itself and summon the courage to make a needed change. While a solar eclipse initiates new beginnings, lunar eclipses bring closure and rewards for ongoing efforts. For some, this could be a time of celebration.

As a finale, this lunar eclipse serves as a final push to make improvements related to where these eclipses have been transiting for your sign. Signs most affected by this eclipse will be all fixed signs, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

What does this mean for you and your sign? Find out below.

Aries

Have you been discounting your needs? This eclipse is happening in your second house of values and money and illuminates the balance between what’s yours and what’s shared, dear Aries. Over the last two weeks, you’ve been focusing on relationship matters and the needs of others. Now you are being pulled toward a desire for comfort, while still finding a balance between means of security and risks you take in investments. Feelings of worth also rise to the surface as well as power dynamics. With a collection of cosmic energy activates your eighth house, the potential to earn outside of your main income is stimulated.

Taurus
April 20-May 20

Over the last two years, eclipses have been occurring in your sign, dear Taurus, and now this one is the finale. What changes have occurred in this time and where is it that change has tried to come in but you may have been resisting? In your first house of personality and physical vitality, this eclipse is likely to have your inner needs come bursting forth. If you’ve been silencing yourself, now is the time when it might feel impossible to not speak up. But with this is a need to strike a balance between your needs and the needs of others by maintaining an authentic expression of self within the context of relationships.

Gemini
May 21–June 20

With this lunar eclipse activating your 12th house of spirituality, beliefs and the subconscious, matters rooted deep within your psyche are unveiled, dear Gemini. For some, this could be about an addiction coming to light and finally deciding to take action. But this could be an addiction to anything — food, social media, work, exercise, etc. — not just a substance. Since 2021, eclipses have been occurring in this part of your sky, which means that this likely won’t be the first time you’ve been prompted to make an adjustment to whatever has been draining your time or health. This final nudge could be just what you need.

Cancer
June 21–July 22

Future goals, group associations and friendship are under the spotlight now, as this lunar eclipse is lighting up your 11th house, dear Cancer. Matters related to social circles have been ongoing for you, and now is the time when issues may reach their peak. Since this eclipse hits on the fifth and 11th house axis, this could indicate parts of yourself you’ve been suppressing in order to satisfy the crowd. And while your efforts may be rooted in humanitarian goals, cutting yourself out of the mix could cause some burnout or frustration. Part of this could spotlight particular associations that are causing more stress than they’re worth. For others, this may swing the opposite way, with your efforts becoming overly self-focused. Now is the time to strike a balance.

Leo
July 23–August 22

With this lunar eclipse illuminating your 10th house, matters related to career, reputation and legacy come under the full moon’s glare now, dear Leo. As part of a two-year cycle, this area of life has been prompted by several eclipses now and is linked with the fourth house of home, family and security. This is about your inner world versus your outer world; your personal life versus your professional life and represents the axis of survival. Your internal world provides the foundation and security from which all else blossoms, including your career. Likewise, your emotional and physical security relies on money.

Virgo
Aug. 23–Sept. 22

This lunar eclipse is lighting up your ninth house, dear Virgo, which highlights matters related to your philosophical outlook, long-distance travel and how you connect to a wider audience. As the last eclipse in this Taurus-Scorpio series that began two years ago, this eclipse may have you questioning lessons you learned as a child and how you use that to shape your guiding beliefs. Perhaps you’re recognizing what’s become outdated or ideas you’ve held close just because you’ve held them for so long. By letting go, you open space for new ideas to flourish. For some, this could indicate good news as it relates to higher education, literary pursuits or legal matters.

Libra
Sept. 23–Oct. 22

The last two weeks may have felt exponentially pivotal, dear Libra, as the solar eclipse in your sign prompted new beginnings related to who you are at your core. Now, with this lunar eclipse activating your eighth house of shared resources, power and intimacy, you’re being asked to consider your values. Some may have to face debts, whether on a financial or emotional plane. Have you been giving too much or waiting for someone else to tell you what you deserve? Do you feel that you control money or that money is controlling you? But this goes beyond money — this is about self-worth and reclaiming your power. You need not be so overly self-reliant that you cut yourself off from available resources.

Scorpio
Oct. 23–Nov. 21

As the collection of cosmic energy continues to build in your sign, a rebirth of spirit is signified, dear Scorpio, and many will be celebrating birthdays soon! Over the next month, you’re likely to feel more energetic and vibrant and inclined to implement habits aligned with future goals. It’s time to celebrate your authentic self. But this week, the lunar eclipse occurs in the sign opposite yours, illuminating your seventh house of partnerships. As the final lunar eclipse in this part of your sky for at least 20 years, this is about striking a balance between your personal needs and the needs of someone else. Because there is an abundance of planets in your sign, you’re more likely to favor self-reliance. The challenge is to open yourself to trusting and working with others. A fortuitous time to meet someone.

Sagittarius
Nov. 22–Dec. 21

How are you managing your time? A lunar eclipse in your sixth house illuminates matters related to health, work and daily routine, which is likely to magnify habits that are negatively affecting you, dear Sagittarius. You may have that feeling of enough is enough and abruptly make changes that drastically improve your well-being and/or eliminate behaviors disrupting your productivity. On the sixth-12th house axis, the eclipse highlights matters of service: how you serve yourself and how you serve others. If you’ve been serving one side more than the other, this eclipse may bring about a circumstance to help you find a balance.

Capricorn
Dec. 22–Jan. 19

With this lunar eclipse happening in your fifth house, matters related to pleasure, creative self-expression, romance and children are springing to the surface, dear Capricorn. Since 2021, the Taurus-Scorpio eclipse series has been activating your fifth and 11th houses that represent the axis of connection: how you connect to yourself and how you connect to humanity. For some, this could be a time when you realize a part of yourself you’ve been suppressing in order to fit into a group association or the like. And as a result, you may have lost some of your authentic voice. Or, on the other hand, you may have become so wrapped up in a personal venture that you’ve become a bit detached from others. This eclipse is helping you find the balance.

Aquarius
Jan. 20–Feb. 18

How secure are you feeling, dear Aquarius? This will be the theme of this week’s lunar eclipse that falls in your fourth house of home, family and inner security. This completes a series of eclipses over the last two years that have been illuminating your fourth and 10th houses, which together represent the axis of survival. The sun in your 10th house of career and legacy stands opposite to this eclipse, which is pushing you to consider your work-life balance. If you’ve been burning the midnight oil and neglecting your own needs, you may be faced with a circumstance that forces you to care for yourself. On the other hand, responsibilities may increase and you may have to alleviate some of your home duties.

Pisces
Feb. 19 – March 20

Matters related to communication, writing, short-distance travel and how you express yourself are brought forward now, as this lunar eclipse lights up your third house, dear Pisces. This lunar eclipse comes as the final in a series that has been activating the axis of mental activity for you, represented by the third house of learning basic information and expressing it and the ninth house of synthesizing that information in a way that broadens perspective. If you’ve been limiting yourself by becoming too wrapped up in the depth of something, it may be that now is a time to add in some fun. This also could indicate a time when you become a student again or transition from student to teacher.
