ST. GEORGE — St. George Police Department Officer Douglas Jacox warned other drivers of the need to wait for all traffic to stop before making a left turn at an intersection, after a two-car collision caused a traffic snag at Red Cliffs Drive and Mall Drive.

Jacox said just before 1 p.m., a dark grey Nissan Titan truck was in the left turn lane facing southwest on Red Cliffs Drive when the light turned yellow. The Nissan turned and was t-boned by a black four-door Audi traveling northeast on Red Cliffs Drive, which entered the intersection while the lights were allegedly yellow.

Gold Cross Ambulance responded and evaluated both drivers, and no other passengers were in the vehicles. One driver was transported to St. George Regional Hospital.

Jacox said the incident was still under investigation with nobody being cited. He added more information needed to be gathered, but a failure to yield citation could be issued.

The Nissan had extensive damage on the passenger side of the vehicle, while the Audi had extensive damage to the front. Both vehicles’ airbags deployed. The vehicles were towed from the scene by Great West Towing and Superior Towing.

One lane traveling northeast was closed down from the Gateway Drive, although traffic resumed with all lanes opened at approximately 1:45 p.m.

“Just cause you have a yellow light on the left-hand turn, doesn’t mean you’re clear to go,” Jacox said. “Got to wait for all traffic to stop before you finish your turn.”

Three police units, a St. George Fire Department fire truck and a Gold Cross Ambulance responded and assisted on the scene. No other injuries were reported.

This report is based on statements from court documents and law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
