ST. GEORGE — Led by senior Boston Bracken’s stellar 10-under-par score of 62, the Crimson Cliffs Mustangs won Region 9’s weekly golf match on Thursday at Sunbrook Golf Club.
Crimson Cliffs finished with a four-player total of 279, with Lincoln Markham and Dylan Winona also coming in under par with 69 apiece.
With temperatures in the low 90s throughout the afternoon, the golfers played nine holes apiece on the Black Rock Nine and The Pointe.
“It was hot and humid this afternoon but I’m proud of how the boys played,” Crimson Cliffs head coach Cody Felts told St. George News afterward.
“Boston had an effortless 62 today, which was incredible to watch,” Felts added, noting that it was Bracken’s best score yet in high school competition.
“He had a 25-footer on the 18th hole that just rolled over the edge of the cup that would have given him a 61,” Felts said, adding that Bracken then easily tapped in his second putt for par.
“He had a great attitude and played one shot at a time,” Felts added. “I’m happy with each of the boys and how they gave it their all today. There were some good shots and some bad shots but their attitudes were good.”
Coming in second place with a team score of 296 were the Snow Canyon Warriors, who were led by Trey Kelsch’s 71.
Dixie High’s top two scorers, Statten McMurdie and William Andrus, each shot a 73 to help the Flyers edge Desert Hills by a single stroke, 307 to 308. See the full listing of team scores below.
Next week’s Region 9 match is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 31 at Southgate Golf Club in St. George.
