“I love my company,” owner and founder Greg Hunt said about Preventive Pest Control. “I love what it stands for and what it does for the community. It’s not just a business; we look at it as a stewardship for the community and try to serve where we can.”

From sponsoring a veterans’ golf tournament to donating time and resources to local schools like Utah Tech University, Preventive Pest Control is a locally owned company that’s passionate about their customers, their employees and the entire community.

Hunt founded the company in New Mexico in 1996 and has since expanded it throughout the United States. At one point, the company consisted of 13 branches in seven states. Ten years ago, Hunt opened the St. George location to give his recently retired father an opportunity to keep busy. When his father was diagnosed with cancer, Hunt moved to the area to be closer to him and help run the business.

“We are local, we’re here, and we’ve been around a long time,” Hunt said. “We’re not just a fly-by-night company that emerged. We’re a company that’s been around going on 30 years. Our reputation precedes us, and we go the extra mile for our customers.”

Preventive Pest Control covers all general pest control services for critters like ants, scorpions, spiders, roaches and other insects along with specialty services including termite control and weed control. Weed services include pre-emergent care and spot treatments. They also tackle vermin such as gophers and pigeons.

Hunt said he’s seen both subterranean and dry wood termites in the area, which comes as a surprise to many people.

“St. George is a very buggy area,” he added. “It really is. I’ve lived in New Mexico, Phoenix, Salt Lake, Texas, and I would say St. George is probably the buggiest place I’ve lived in.”

Because St. George was carved out of the desert, Hunt said the combination of dry heat and year-round moderate temperatures keep bugs alive instead of dormant like other places that experience harsh winters. While bugs may not be seen as often in the winter months, they’re still thriving underground or in hiding places.

Specific pests that become more rampant in the wintertime include mice, spiders and certain types of ants. Preventive Pest Control considers October and November to be the peak months for spiders.

“I recommend servicing your home at least every other month year-round,” Hunt said. “Because that way, in the springtime, you don’t have this mass infestation of anything. As long as you’re maintaining the home, then your house is never vulnerable.”

For homes that have never had pest control or have gone long periods without it, Hunt said that gives bugs the opportunity to harbor. Usually, when the first spray happens, residents will see an influx of movement as the bugs are flushed out. While this can be handled and maintained, he recommends proactive instead of reactive pest control.

“Our whole philosophy with the name ‘Preventive’ is that we try to keep the bugs from coming inside the home, so we put out a barrier around the house,” he said. “Our difference is really good products, really good equipment and well-trained people.”

Preventive Pest Control uses top-of-the-line, manufacturer-backed, organic products that are safe for the environment. Something that sets the company apart from other pest control companies is its use of a power sprayer, which puts out a significantly larger and stronger barrier than a customer would get with a small can of spray. Their products are designed to withstand both sunlight and heat along with rain.

Reliable and prompt, Preventive Pest Control has the manpower, the equipment and the people to help customers when they need it. No more waiting a week or more to get an appointment. They’re able to have a technician at your front door in 24 hours or less.

Preventive Pest Control serves all of Southern Utah along with Mesquite and Las Vegas. Many plans are available, including monthly, bi-monthly and more. Click here to schedule your first service.
