As the only full-time retina specialty provider in the area, Retina Associates of Southern Utah continues to rapidly expand and evolve along with the community. They opened a state-of-the-art facility on Riverside Drive in St. George earlier this year, allowing for the addition of optometric physician Dr. Reed Gibb to their team.

“We’re thrilled to have him,” said Dr. Ken Lord, the clinic’s founder and a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal specialist. “We’re a very niche specialty, and we see a lot of people with highly complex eye problems. He appreciates the challenge.”

Gibb earned a bachelor of science in zoology with a minor in business from Brigham Young University before traveling to Oregon to attend the Pacific University College of Optometry. He completed his post-graduate residency at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

His decades of clinical experience have primarily focused on geriatric eye care, such as cataracts and glaucoma, as well as retinal diseases including macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

Gibb is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Utah Optometric Association. Away from the office, he enjoys gardening and spending time with his family.

After practicing at a cataract and LASIK clinic in the St. George area for the past 19 years, Gibb is a familiar face among patients and well-respected by providers in the local eye care community.

Looking for a change of pace, joined Retina Associates of Southern Utah as a part-time clinician a few months ago. He also recently purchased the Graf Medical Eye Care and Vision Center on South Main Street in St. George, where he sees patients for a variety of comprehensive optometry needs.

At Retina Associates of Southern Utah, Gibb facilitates the follow-up and post-operative appointments of numerous patients. He also helps manage care for patients with macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusion, among other conditions.

“Having another clinician who can specifically focus on retina and augment the care we’re trying to deliver is an asset, because we’re trying to serve a large population of patients,” Lord said. “This was just the right time to add another clinician to our space, and it was fortuitous that Dr. Gibb was looking for other options.”

Recognizing that the community needed a dedicated retina specialist to meet the needs of its growing population, Lord established Retina Associates of Southern Utah 10 years ago. The clinic serves patients living in Southern Utah, Northern Arizona and Eastern Nevada with multiple office locations and addresses a variety of conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachments, surgical complications and uveitis, along with ocular trauma and oncology.

As a leader in advanced retinal treatment and surgery, Retina Associates of Southern Utah is committed to providing exceptional patient care with compassion, respect and integrity. The clinic’s approach is rooted in evidence-based medical practices focused on improving eye health and elevating quality of life.

“We use the latest techniques, treatments and research,” Lord said. “If it’s available and being done somewhere, we’re doing it here.”
