HILDALE — A woman hiking in the Water Canyon area of Hildale required assistance from emergency responders on Friday evening after slipping on rocks that were slick and landing in cold water.

Hildale-Colorado City Fire Chief Kevin Barlow said crews wrapped up the call for assistance at approximately 6 p.m.

“Washington County Search and Rescue responded to a person who had slipped on slick rock and injured her ankle,” Barlow told St. George News. “The cold water from the stream was a factor in her condition.”

The Utah Department of Public Service dispatched the Star 9 helicopter to assist due the length of time the hiker was waiting for assistance, Barlow added.

“After the time delay of her partner hiking to get cell service and the time for rescuers to reach her, the rescue helicopter was able to hoist her out of the canyon to a waiting ambulance at Maxwell Park,” he said. “This was good coordination between Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado City-Hildale Fire Department and DPS rescue crews.”

This report is based on statements from court records, police or emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
