“This project will be significantly less problems for travelers than last year,” Nevada Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Justin Hopkins said via a phone interview with St. George News.

Hopkins said the construction will be between mileposts 95 and 118 on both the northbound and southbound lanes of the I-15. However, he said one side will be worked on at a time with one lane on that side remaining open.

“Why it will be significantly less is because the construction crews will be working at night and on the weekends there will be no work done,” said Hopkins, adding that this will be the final part of the previous construction that was temporarily halted late last year.

According to the press release, the schedule of the construction is Monday-Friday from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. There will be no work done from later mornings on Fridays and Saturday-Sunday.

Hopkins said crews will be resetting the guardrails and making shoulder repairs first to set up for the paving of the lanes. The scheduled date of completion is at the end of this summer.

Hopkins did give a “heads-up” to another project that will have the potential of being more of a hassle. This construction project will be between Apex/US-93 Exit 64 and the Las Vegas Speedway, just north of Las Vegas. The construction crews will be expanding the freeway up to three lanes.

He said this project will be 24/7 and will be down to one lane on both the northbound and southbound lanes. The project is expected to last a few months.

“Drivers need to remember to be patient and obey the signs and speed limits for the safety of the workers as well as other travelers,” Hopkins said.
