In what has been a season of growth, several Trailblazers have continued to establish new personal records in the program’s third year in existence.

Most recently, Utah Tech competed at the Adidas/Steve Scott Invitational at UC Irvine April 28-29. According to a news release, the Trailblazers established new PRs “across nearly every event” and set four team records.

“The ladies had something like 14 or 15 personal records along with four new school records,” Utah Tech coach Derrick Adkins said in the news release. “First, this meet is about confidence. Having all those PRs and four school records inspires confidence going into the championship in two weeks.”

The record-setting performances were as follows:

Sophomore Addi Wyatt established a new Utah Tech best of 2 minutes, 12.60 seconds, in the 800 meters. She placed ninth in the event.

Sophomore Rashawnna Gibson became the first Trailblazer to ever go under 12 seconds in the 100-meter dash, placing eighth in a UT-best 11.92.

Freshman Megan Jenkins broke her own 400 hurdles team record, clocking 1:02.67 to finish fourth.

The 200-meter dash saw two Trailblazers break records. In heat three,  Gibson ran a program-best 25.34. But the record would be short-lived. In the very next heat, Utah Tech sophomore Ashlynna Gilhula ran two hundredths faster, 25.32, and left the meet with the team record.

“The ladies are really starting to believe in themselves, starting to show it and starting to produce the times,” Adkins said.

Utah Tech heads to Nacogdoches, Texas, May 11-13, for the 2023 WAC outdoor track and field championships.
