Driver allegedly runs red light, causes what St. George Police officer calls ‘preventable’ collision

ST. GEORGE — The driver of a 2012 Honda Odyssey allegedly ran a red light and hit a Toyota truck at the intersection of Black Ridge and Dixie drives in St. George just before noon Tuesday.

St. George Police officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News “this type of collision is very preventable.”

“Paying attention to our driving is so valuable,” she said. “It doesn’t actually cost us a thing. But failing to do it could cost ourselves or others on the road our lives.”

Mitchell said there were neither injuries to the drivers of the vehicles nor the child passenger in the Honda.

The Honda was traveling westbound on Dixie Drive, while the Toyota was at the intersection of Black Ridge and Dixie drives preparing to make a left turn to head eastbound.

Witnesses told officers the Toyota had a green light when the Honda ran a red light. The driver of the Honda was a 33-year-old female and the driver of the Toyota a 22-year-old female.

Mitchell said personnel from St. George Police Department and St. George Fire Department responded to the scene. She said Gold Cross Ambulance also assisted with the incident.
