St. George police officer Ean Williams told St. George News that Tuesday at 1:36 p.m., a Subaru Outback was westbound on 800 E and had stopped at the stop sign at the corner of 600 South and 800 E.

“The driver of the Subaru looked left, right and left again and saw a fellow track team member and was waving at them, acknowledging them,” Williams said.

He said the driver then proceeded through the intersection and did not realize that another team member driving the Kia Soul was westbound on 600 South.  Williams said the vehicles met in the intersection and the collision caused the Kia to spin and then roll up onto its driver’s side.

While no injuries were reported, Kia driver was transported to St. George Regional Hospital by ambulance as a precaution. Williams said the driver of the Subaru was issued a citation for her role in the collision.

“So, in this particular instance, it would be failing to yield after a stop sign,” Williams said. “The driver of the Subaru did come to a stop. But she did fail to yield to oncoming traffic once she stopped and proceeded through the intersection.”

Responding agencies included St. George Police, Utah Tech University Campus Police and Gold Cross Ambulance.

This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
