ST. GEORGE — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued both a wind advisory and winter storm watch for portions of Southern Utah.

The wind advisory, which includes the cities of Cedar City and Beaver, is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday, while the winter storm watch runs from 9 p.m. Wednesday through 9 p.m. Thursday.

The weather service issued a wind advisory in effect for areas across southwest Utah including the cities of Wendover, Dugway, Park Valley, Tooele, Grantsville, Vernon, Delta, Little Sahara, Beaver, Cedar City and Milford.

South winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected.

The NWS issued a second advisory Tuesday afternoon for Washington, Iron, Beaver, Kane and Garfield counties at approximately 2:30 p.m. and specifies Brian Head, Alton and the Tushar Mountains. These areas could see 8-16 inches of snow Wednesday-Thursday, along with 50 mph wind gusts.

Plan on slippery road conditions, and use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects, the weather service said.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. A few power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult due to crosswinds, especially for high-profile vehicles and vehicles with trailers.

For the most current conditions, warnings and advisories, go to the National Weather Service-Salt Lake City office website. Additional information on driving conditions can be found at the UDOT website, as well as UDOT’s Commuterlink for current road and weather conditions, or dial 511.
