CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — The Easter Bunny may be the star of the season, but it’s all about the hogs during this year’s Hog and Jog 5K Family Fun Run. Whether you’ll run or walk, push a stroller or pull a dog, put on your piggy pink and aim for the finish line, where a bounty of bacon awaits.

Sponsored by 435-Injured, TDS, Planet 105.1 and the St. George Running Center, the Hog and Jog promises an action-packed morning of family fun. With music on the course, bacon bits at the aid station and pig-themed selfie booths, participants can celebrate and run at the same time.

“It’s all about fun,” race director Dan Aamodt said. “It’s just one of those goofy, silly, take-your-mind-off-life type of events.”

The ninth annual Hog and Jog will be held on Saturday, April 8. The race begins at 8 a.m. at Unity Park, located at 200 W. 400 South in Ivins, and loops back around to the same location. Although it’s not timed, the top three male and female finishers will earn prizes.

Participants can sign up as an individual or as a team, which Aamodt said is a great way for families to save a few bucks. Registration costs $33 for solo runners and team captains and $27 per team member. All entries are non-transferable and non-refundable, and the race will be held rain or shine.

Every participant will receive a Hog and Jog T-shirt and 4-inch finisher’s medal. The first 500 people to sign up also get an official Hog and Jog pig nose to wear during the race.

“Register as early as possible,” Aamodt said. “This event will sell out.”

Runners can pick up their registration packets at the St. George Running Center, located at 2736 E. Red Cliffs Drive #5 in St. George, on Friday, April 7, from 3-7 p.m. Packet pickup will also be available near the starting line from 7:15-7:45 a.m. on race day.

Participants are encouraged to stick around after the race to enjoy the salty, savory goodness of bacon, bacon bits and bacon-topped donuts at the finish line. The St. George Running Center will be awarding $25 gift cards to the four runners with the best bacon-themed costumes.

Many families choose to join Ivins City’s annual Easter Egg Scramble, which will take place at 9 a.m. at Unity Park. Kids 12 and under are welcome to participate for free and will be divided into three age groups. Everyone must bring their own basket for collecting eggs.

“It’s an Easter weekend family tradition,” Aamodt said.
