ST. GEORGE — The Washington County School District has released the school fees for 2023-2024 and is now seeking public feedback on the proposed changes.
The proposed changes to the DRAFT 23-24 School Fee Schedule were introduced to the school board at their last monthly meeting on March 7.
“We always want input and welcome it,” said board vice president David Stirland.
The public will have time to make comments and voice their concerns about the fees and during the school district’s special work meeting on Monday, March 27 at 5:15 p.m. The meeting will be held at the district office at 121 W. Tabernacle Street in St. George.
Those wishing to give feedback will be given a time limit of three minutes during public comment.
The 2023-2024 Draft School Fee Schedule has more than one dozen changes in fee amounts — all of which are raised. Most changes are for the high school level.
The biggest of the raises for curriculum include the Driver’s Education course, which will jump from $125 to $175. The exchange program to Ibigawa, Japan sees a raise from $900 to $1,100. If students are planning on being part of the Executive Council, the apparel fee is raised from $200 to $250.
Elementary activity fees remain free for students except for after-school programs. Those are $15 for students who qualify for reduced lunch and $25 for those who don’t qualify for the federal program. Those who participate in elementary school choir must pay a $10 fee for a t-shirt.
Middle and intermediate schools could see a change in school apparel fees, which jumps from $20 to $30 in the new fee schedule.
As for sports, there are no changes from last year. The biggest uniform costs are for cheer and drill dance teams at $700 per student. Other sports, such as football are $50 to rent equipment for the sports season.
Non-athletic extracurricular activities fees for band, orchestra, drama and dance all have over $500 in various fees while the JROTC program costs more than $1,000.
Testing fees will see small changes as the PSAT will be $20 compared to last year’s cost of $17. The foreign language assessment will cost up to $25 as well. The ACT test will remain the same at $50 while graduation fees remain the same at $40.
The public feedback will take place during board action items on the agenda.
“Those who are interested should attend and participate,” Stirland said.
