IVINS — From detox clays and all-purpose salves to natural perfumes and yoga mat sprays, one herbalist and nutritionist has made her home products public with one goal — to spread healing.

“I wanted to share wellness with people, to share how I healed my son and the journey of that,” Christine Lawson, owner of Hippie Whipped, said.

Hippie Whipped originally started as a dessert company, but Lawson said after becoming a nutritionist, she felt that selling sweets — something she rarely consumed herself — didn’t align with her mission or what she wanted to offer the world.

Her journey to naturopathic healing and spirituality began when her son was a baby. After undergoing a medical procedure during a routine visit, he had a severe reaction that quickly spiraled into long-term and irreversible health effects.

“His whole leg ballooned up and it was like that for months,” she said. “He started having seizure activity and lost all speech. He was diagnosed with autism and all of these things just started rolling out of nowhere.”

Lawson said she immediately lost faith in her doctors. Not comfortable with the cocktail of recommended medications, she decided to dive head-first into natural remedies and consume as much information as possible. As she researched mild detox options that wouldn’t result in additional side effects, she created her first natural homemade detox clay.

Watching her son’s transformation, which was coupled with a strict diet and behavioral therapy, inspired her to share her homemade products and the benefits they had on his health. She showcased them for the first time at the St. George Market in October 2022.

Her son is about to turn 9 years old, and she says you’d never know anything was wrong with him when he was younger.

“I just had this vision,” she said. “ I’m going to make all these things I used to make for my son when he was a baby. I know it works from personal experience, but hearing how much of a difference it’s made in others’ lives never gets old.”

Hippie Whipped Detox Clay consists of bentonite clay, a volcanic ash sourced from Northern Utah. When bentonite clay is absorbed through the skin, it binds to toxins and flushes them out before they attach to anything that can cause harm to the body.

Other clay ingredients include jojoba oil, Dead Sea salts, lavender essential oil, frankincense, tangerine peel, rosemary leaf, geranium flower/leaf, Juniper berry and cilantro essential oils. The essential oils also bind to toxins, which are then flushed out. The clay is safe for ages 1 and up.

“He’s the whole reason why I became a nutritionist and herbalist and started studying spirituality and all of this stuff,” she said. “And through all of this, I found healing through food, which is my passion.”

The Hippie Whipped line consists of a variety of products, including a Multi-Use Salve, which was originally created as “booty butter” for her son’s rashes. The salve contains German chamomile and can heal skin-related issues such as eczema, cuts and scrapes, cold sores, bug bites, sunburns and dermatitis.

“Breathe” by Hippie Whipped is a mild menthol and spearmint product that is easier on the respiratory system for both the elderly and babies than over-the-counter options. “Relief” is a pain rub Lawson created that has personally helped her with debilitating pain from an autoimmune disorder of the uterus.

“The amount of feedback I’ve been getting from my pain rub, it’s been incredible,” she said. “I love that it’s helping people.”
