Fishtailing trailer rolls on state Route 7 in Washington County

ST. GEORGE — A fishtailing trailer was the cause of a traffic incident near milepost 5 on state Route 7 on Friday, according to Utah Highway Patrolman Chris Lewis.

At approximately 5 p.m., a truck towing a dump-style trailer was traveling westbound one mile past the Desert Canyons Parkway exit when the trailer began to fishtail, the trooper said.

“A witness stated the driver almost regained control, then lost it,” Lewis said. “The trailer rolled, but the truck remained upright blocking the right line of travel.”

No injuries were reported by the driver and no other vehicles were involved in the incident. No citations were issued.

Lewis cautioned that many times when a rollover involves a utility trailer such as the one in Friday’s incident, it is due to improperly loaded trailers.

He did not know if that was the case for the overturned trailer.

“The weight of the load should be distributed evenly throughout the trailer,” he said. “Be careful not to overload one side.”

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
