ST. GEORGE —Gunlock State Park is at full capacity after word spread like a flash flood that the waterfalls at Gunlock are flowing once again.
In the days since the falls have been flowing, park officials sent out a notice on social media stating they are “unable to accommodate additional visitors at this time.”
When the park is at full capacity, officials have to turn away additional visitors until the park is back under capacity.
Updates about the park opening its gates to more visitors can be found on Gunlock State Park’s website or facebook page.
The notice posted by state park officials encourages outdoor enthusiasts to find additional recreation in the area such as Quail Creek State Park, Sand Hollow Reservoir and Snow Canyon State Park.
As previously reported by St. George News, officials predicted the return of the falls along with their popularity and have increased traffic measures and enforcement to help with the congestion.
Seeing the rapid waters crash down the red rock boulders is a rare occurrence, and does not happen every year.
The last time the falls were seen flowing in 2020, the parks department chose to “shut off” the falls.
Injuries from cliff jumping and slips were also reported that year. In 2019, a man who was reported missing after cliff diving at the falls was found dead the following day.
Because Gunlock Falls is a very popular place, it is recommended sightseers check park conditions before driving to Gunlock State Park.
Once the parking area reaches capacity, just like Sand Hollow and other state parks, the area will be closed to new visitors causing wait times to enter.
