ST. GEORGE — Police are searching for the individuals responsible for a morning drive-by shooting near Riverside Drive on Friday. A pickup truck in the driveway of the home where the incident occurred was hit several times.
No bullets struck the house or people inside, said St. George resident Kristle Salaya, who provided St. George News with home surveillance footage of the incident.
At approximately 3:15 a.m. a grey passenger car can be seen driving past her home. As the car passes her daughter’s truck, five shots can be heard and flashes are seen coming from a pistol being held out of the vehicle’s passenger window.
“I just think, if those bullets would have hit my home it would have went right through because it’s a trailer,” she said. “They could have easily hit my daughter.”
Salaya said she can’t think of a reason someone would commit such an act. Criminal activity has been happening in her neighborhood for some time, she said, so she installed a home surveillance system.
“I go to work, we go to church, my daughter goes to Utah Tech, we have no enemies,” she said. “But I have had my car broken into several times so I got the cameras — I never thought they would catch something like this.”
St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell confirmed to St. George News that officers are investigating a report of shots fired near the intersection of 2650 East and 170 North.
“There was a car damaged by the gunshots,” she said. “No suspects have been arrested, but this is an active case with investigators working every lead.”
This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
St. George News will update this report as more information becomes available.
