Barbara Wyson, age 93, of Saint George, Utah, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on March 6, 2023. Barbara was born on Jan. 25, 1930, in Los Angeles, California, to Frank Alvin Jones and Ruth Lester. She was a sweet curly-haired beauty.
Barbara was a talented pianist. She graduated from Dorsey High School. Then she worked as a secretary at Douglas Aircraft. Barbara married Joseph Francis Wyson, Sept. 15, 1953, in the Saint George LDS Temple. They lived in Los Angeles where their first five children were born. Joe was the owner of Glide-Easy Aircraft.
In 1962 they moved to Yorba Linda, California, where they added five more children. Then in 1968 they moved to Toronto, Canada, and had their 11th child. They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1972 and finally settled in Saint George, Utah. She loved her home and friends in Sun River.
Barbara “Mama” loved being a mother and devoted her entire life to her children. She was very sociable and loved to talk. She loved to read, write letters and write in her journal. She enjoyed swimming and won three medals in the senior games. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Joseph; two grandsons Michael and John; and a great-grandson Collin. She is survived by her children Rebecca, Joseph (Jana), Daniel (Launa), Elizabeth (Dan), Matthew (Tess), Jennifer, Colleen (Mark), Catherine (Michael), John (Andrea), David (Jordi) and Amy (Don); 66 grandchildren; and 103 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m. in the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment will follow in the St. George City Cemetery located at 600 East Tabernacle St.
