Lelan Patrick Meacham

Dec. 19, 1973-Feb. 3, 2023

Lelan Patrick Meacham passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Feb. 3, 2023, due to complications related to heart disease.

Lelan was born on Dec. 19, 1973, to Patricia Meacham in Escondido, California. His family later moved to Saint George, Utah, where he spent his formative years. Lelan was always drawn to the deserts of southern Utah — his sanctuary — where he found ultimate comfort and peace catching snakes, lizards, and every other critter the red rocks had to offer.

Lelan was a kind man, full of love and generosity, always giving gifts and doing what he could for the people around him. He had a devious sense of humor and a quick wit. If his sarcasm was directed at you, it was his way of showing affection and you felt embraced by him.

He was gifted with his hands, building things and creating many an art project out of found items — one man’s junk was Lelan’s treasure. Lelan worked in construction most of his life and started his own business concrete and coatings, creating unique designs for many people. Later in Lelan’s life, he became a father to Alec, and he spent a large majority of Alec’s young life teaching him how to hike, catch any kind of animal you could imagine, and find some creative way to keep it in a cage inside the house.

Just as his brother David, Lelan carried an unimaginable burden from the time he was a child until he passed away. Despite this, he still found joy in life, in nature, in those he loved.

Lelan is survived by his mother Patricia, who he doted over his whole life, always making sure that she did not feel lonely; Morgan Larson, his companion in life and mother to his child;  son Alec Meacham; sister Debbie Banks; older brothers Richard Penman, Steve Penman and Val Penman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lelan was welcomed into his next chapter by Jordan, Mike, David and of course his dog Benji. He was so loved by so many and will be missed by friends and family. We love you Lelan and will miss you for all the days of our lives. Every time we see a horned toad or tarantula, we’ll think of you with a smile.

Arrangements are under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff St., St. George, 435-673-2454. Family and friends are invited to sign Lelan’s online guest book.
