The incident, which was reported shortly before 5:30 p.m., occurred at the intersection of 800 South and Main Street and involved a gray Saturn Ion and a black Kia Optima.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Justin Ludlow said the preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Saturn was headed southbound on Main when he ran a red light and struck the driver’s side of the Kia, whose driver had been heading east on 800 South and was attempting to turn left onto northbound Main Street.

The woman driving the Kia remained inside her car until Gold Cross Ambulance personnel got her out and placed her on a stretcher before transporting her to Cedar City Hospital.

Ludlow told Cedar City News he did not know the nature or extent of the woman’s injuries.

Meanwhile, the man who was driving the Saturn didn’t appear to be injured. He was cited for running a red light, Ludlow added.

Traffic through the intersection was impacted by temporary lane closures and detours for approximately 45 minutes while responders worked to clear the scene. In addition to several Cedar City Police officers, multiple Cedar City Fire Department personnel also responded.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and needed to be towed from the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
