The incident was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m., when emergency dispatch received a text from a teenager who said two men were possibly in the home. When officers arrived, they encountered two suspicious men running in the area, St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News.

One of the suspects was caught by police, but the second suspect — who was seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, a lime-green face mask and a black fanny pack — remains at large, Mitchell said. A photo of the suspect authorities are looking for is included in this report.

Mitchell said investigators believe the suspect may have left in a vehicle parked in the area sometime after the search was initiated.

Shortly after officers responded to the area, multiple schools in Little Valley were placed on a “secure” status, meaning the exterior doors of the schools were locked and no entry into the school is allowed, while operations within the school continued as normal, Steve Dunham, communications director for the Washington County School District, told St. George News.

The search for the second suspect continued into Friday afternoon involving multiple St. George Police officers and detectives that were circulating a large area surrounding the location where the incident took place. That included multiple police units that were going door-to-door speaking to residents.

The Washington City Police Department also sent officers to assist and began circulating the area in search of the suspect, Washington City Police Chief Jason Williams said.

Williams went on to say that several schools in Washington City that were in the general vicinity of the search were also secured and the school resource 0fficers assigned to the schools were also advised, in accordance with district protocols.

The St. George Police Department is seeking the public’s help and is asking that anyone with information that might help police identify the suspect, or any other information that will assist with the investigation, to call the St. George Police Department at  435-627-4300.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
