Annie Barber

Annie Barber was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Feb. 5, 1935. She passed away on Nov. 3, 2022, in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, at the age of 87. She had Alzheimer’s Disease and was a faithful Christian.

She was married to Neils Gilbrantsen. She administered the family photography business and was a cosmetologist and makeup artist. She survived a death-threatening illness in her 20s and was divorced in her 30s. Annie met Bob Barber on the beach in Sicily she was 40 and a new life began. They lived in Italy, Spain, California, Denmark and Saint George, Utah. Annie spoke Danish, English and Italian fluently. Annie became a US citizen in 1987.

Annie was a fantastic watercolor artist and belonged to the Southern Utah Watercolor Society. Her paintings hung in several local galleries; she became a well-known local artist. Besides watercolor art, Annie taught Danish and Italian cooking in Thousand Oaks, California. She was a wonderful seamstress. Annie was a kind and loving friend, she loved to entertain in her well-decorated home.

Annie was an animal lover and showed her AKA dogs: Sofie, Peter, Tina and Rasmina. She and Bob loved to travel in their motorhome. They spent their summers on the California Coast and in Denmark. Devoted and loving wife; they were married for over 35 years until Bob passed away in 2012.

Annie is survived by her family in Denmark: brother Kurt Zimdahl, nephew Thomas Zimdahl with his wife and children; stepdaughters Lisa Serchia and family, Debbie Barber Shaw and Barbra Wine.

Graveside services will be held at Tonaquint Cremation Gardens, 1777 S. Dixie Drive, St George, Utah, on Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. Pastor Jill Doherty of New Promise Lutheran Church will be presiding.
