Just after 5 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of 400 South and River Road in front of the Lowes Home Improvement store. One minivan was towed from the scene, as well as a smaller passenger vehicle that was upside down when St. George News arrived on scene.

St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News that the 75-year-old male driver of the Honda Fit vehicle was making a left turn out of the Lowe’s parking lot onto River Road heading south.

The 30 year-old female driver of the Honda Odyssey minivan heading north on River Road was allegedly making a lane change and did not see the car, hitting the driver side and causing the car to flip over.

“She tried to avoid the crash by braking and swerving, but she hit the driver’s side of vehicle one causing it to flip,” she said.

The minivan was also transporting four children, one of them a newborn. None of the occupants from either vehicle needed medical transportation, Mitchell said.

Southbound traffic was diverted to one lane for about 45 minutes while tow truck drivers and an incident response team removed the vehicles, glass and fluids left as a result of the crash.
