ST. GEORGE — Josh Wilson of Scenic, Arizona, considers himself blessed after a fire broke out in his RV, destroying the RV and greenhouse but not his residential house Friday afternoon.

“It’s a blessing,” Wilson said in a phone interview with St. George News. “We feel quite fortunate. It’s all that matters, that we still got our house.”

Wilson who owns the Polaris Can-Am and Honda World in Mesquite, Nevada was grateful for the safety of his family, first responders and home. Unfortunately, he said there were some victims of the fire.

“A couple of hundred fish died,” Wilson said. “The poor fish were the real victims.”

Wilson explained he had a fish pond of 4,000-5,000 gallons of water with carp, largemouth bass and other types of bass.

Littlefield/Beaver Dam Fire Department Chief Jeff Hunt reported the fire started in the RV and spread to the greenhouse.

“The RV was a complete loss,” Hunt said. “It was something electrical that started the fire.”

Hunt said they were able to be lucky enough to get the fire contained pretty quickly with help from the Mesquite Fire Department and the Clark County Fire Department in Bunkerville, Nevada even though it was pretty massive when they arrived on the scene. The RV, carport and greenhouse were all most likely lost.

Wilson said the extent of the damage will be figured out more when the insurance representative inspects it.

The greenhouse was an aquaponics greenhouse that was about to start up as a business.

“Now we have to figure out how to rebuild,” Wilson said. “I am not one to sit around for too long. We will get started on it.”

Wilson and his family is well known within the Mesquite, Nevada and Scenic, Arizona area as the Polaris Can-Am Honda World hosts the “Mesquite Off-Road Extravaganza” annually with off-road races, stunt shows, music and more.

This year the event will be last weekend in February. They also donate towards school events and youth activities.
