Dale Lyman Atkin

Jan. 25-1947-Jan. 10, 2023

Dale Lyman Atkin, 75, of St. George, Utah, passed away peacefully the morning of Jan. 10, 2023, at his home with his wife by his side. He was born Jan. 25, 1947, in St. George to William Floyd and Ellen Lyman Atkin. He married Christine Cornelius on March 18, 1971, in the St. George Temple.

Dale was raised by a loving family in Cedar City, Utah. He had a gift for music from a young age and loved to entertain his family and friends. He accompanied his parents on a mission to Samoa and New Zealand in 1962. He graduated from Bountiful High School in 1965, he attended SUSC until being called to serve a two -year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Western Samoa in 1966.

He and Christine moved to St. George in 1972. In September 1980 he had a kidney transplant at the Mayo Clinic, his sister Marilyn being the donor. Dale was warm, funny and loved meeting and talking to people. He started several successful local businesses: Atkin Music, Atkin Travel and Tropical Sno.

He lived in Samoa, New Zealand, Hawaii, Cedar City and St. George. He had a genuine love for Samoan people and culture, spoke the language fluently and made many friends there. Dale loved his dogs, music, concerts, was an avid piano player and naturally gifted musician. He loved traveling, emojis, frogs and playing Rook and Othello.

He was loved and adored by his family, friends and grandchildren and loved to make people laugh. Dale was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony and deep love of the Savior. 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Christine Atkin and their three daughters Kimberly Goller (David), Marci Lloyd (Ben), Jennifer Atkin Rosenthal (Mike); doggy Lena; grandchildren Dax, Demi, River and Sloane; sister Marilyn Allen (Doug) and brother Scott Atkin (Genny).

He was preceded in death by his parents William Floyd Atkin, Ellen Lyman Atkin and a brother Curtis Lyman Atkin.

The family would like to thank his caregivers, nurses, neighbors and friends. 

A celebration of his life at will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Foremaster LDS Chapel, 912 S. 1740 E., St George. Interment will follow the services at the St. George City Cemetery.
