Bicyclist seriously injured in nighttime collision with car at Cedar City intersection

CEDAR CITY — A man riding a bicycle was seriously injured in a collision with a car in Cedar City on Monday night.

The incident, which was reported shortly after 9:15 p.m., involved a red Toyota Camry and a bicycle being ridden by an adult male of undisclosed age.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Justin Ludlow told Cedar City News the bicyclist was heading west along 200 North when he collided with the car, which had been turning left from eastbound 200 North onto northbound 300 West.

The rider was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to Cedar City Hospital for treatment of injuries that were described as serious. Ludlow said the man had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

No other injuries were reported.

Traffic detours were implemented at the intersection while the scene was investigated and cleared. Personnel from multiple agencies responded, including the Cedar City Police Department, Cedar City Fire Department, Southern Utah University Police, Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Gold Cross Ambulance and Utah Highway Patrol.

No citations were issued, Ludlow said Tuesday morning, adding that there have not been any updates regarding the injured man’s condition. The man was later transferred to St. George Regional Hospital, Ludlow confirmed.
