Head-on collision slows traffic on Dixie Drive; no injuries reported

ST. GEORGE — A head-on collision between two passenger cars resulted in significant damage to the vehicles but no reported injuries to the drivers or occupants Tuesday night in St. George.

At least three St. George Police patrol cars, an engine from the St. George Fire Department and a Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene near the intersection of Dixie Drive and 540 N shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Officers from St. George Animal Services were on hand as well, helping direct traffic while the cleanup took place.

Traffic flow on Dixie Drive was condensed into two lanes around the accident scene for about 40 minutes, resulting in slowed but not stopped traffic.

The two vehicles involved were a black Chevy Camaro and a silver Nissan Sentra.

St. George Police officer Saxton Brown told St. George News that the collision was head-to-head.

Brown went on to say that one of the cars, though he did not specify which, was stopped while waiting to turn off Dixie Drive onto 540 North.

“One vehicle mainly stationary, the other vehicle leaving its lane of travel for unknown reason,” Brown said. “Hit the vehicle that was almost stationary, hadn’t made the turn yet.”

He added that no injuries were reported that he knew about.

“Medical did see both of the drivers and they both elected not to be transported (to the hospital),” said Brown, adding that citations will be issued.

“Legal action will be for what I determine the offense was, to at least contribute to the accident, will be just the improper event while traveling,” he said.

This report is based on statements provided by law enforcement personnel and may not include the full scope of the findings.
