ST. GEORGE — Washington City residents that regularly use Washington Fields Road to access state Route 7, also known as Southern Parkway, will see fewer delays due to construction as early as this week, with more crews moving off the scene as early as next month.
On Friday, Washington City Streets Superintendent Andy Stevens spoke with St. George News about two current road construction projects nearing completion on Washington Fields Road. The first, at the 2000 South Intersection, is complete as far as construction. The final product just needs some finishing work.
“They widened the road at that intersection and added a deceleration lane to the right side so the cars going into that development can slow down,” Stevens said. “We are waiting for the cement in the manhole covers to dry and the paint crew to come in. Could be finished by the end of next week.”
Not quite 1 mile from that project, at the intersection of Washington Fields Road and Washington Meadows, street crews are widening the road from three to five lanes all the way to the Washington Fields Road and 3090 South intersections.
“The crews are moving pretty quickly on this project too,” Stevens said. “Basically we are widening the road through this development due to higher traffic. Should be finished by the end of the month at the latest.”
New credit union announced
In other Washington City development news, a 4.6-acre retail development was announced by developer Evergreen Devco, Inc. at the intersection of Buena Vista Boulevard and Primavera Lane. Upon purchasing the property in September, Evergreen sold 87,000 square feet to Cypress Federal Credit Union, currently the only business planned at the site, said Tobin Ernst, Evergreen’s media relations.
The company plans to lease the remaining 199,000 square feet of retail property to various tenants. Cypress Federal Credit Union plans to open at 798 West Buena Vista Boulevard, near the Maverik convenience store currently under construction, in “early 2023,” according to the news release.
“Washington, Utah is an exciting market for us,” said Matt Nielson, director of acquisitions at Evergreen Devco. “We look forward to developing the site and working with tenants to drive growth in the area.”
