ST. GEORGE — A 45-year-old female was airlifted from Warner Valley east of St. George after an apparent motorcycle crash, a fall from a ledge and a broken foot.

Deputy Jacob Paul with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said search and rescue teams were called to the scene popular for off-road driving at approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Responding officers found the female had fallen off her dirt bike while also falling from a 15-foot ledge. During the landing, the woman sustained a broken foot and Classic Air Medical was deployed due to the woman’s location and uneven terrain.

Law enforcement from Utah State Parks Department was first on the scene, and Washington County Search and Rescue joined in providing stabilization until an airlift could arrive, Paul said. Medical units from Washington and Hurricane and troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol also assisted.

“We provided her with medical assistance and made sure she was stabilized until Classic (Air Medical) arrived,” he said. “They were able to land really close to her and she was transported safely to St. George Regional.”

The incident occurred 10 miles east of St. George, about one-half mile from what is known locally as the Cliffs of Insanity in an area known as the Warner Valley. The area is popular for its proximity to dinosaur tracks and extensive trail systems for off-road motor vehicles.
