The Trailblazers wasted no time getting a jump on the Lions thanks to a 14-4 run in the midst of the first quarter. Emily Isaacson knocked down two threes during the run while Maggie McCord and Macie Warren each added a bucket beyond the arc. As the first quarter ended, UT had a 27-14 lead over TAMC.

Utah Tech (5-2 overall) was the first to score in the second quarter thanks to a made jumper by Breaunna Gillen.  The Trailblazers put together a 9-2 run in the second quarter to help propel them to a 44-27 lead at halftime.

Texas A&M Commerce started the second half on a 9-2 run. The Trailblazers answered with a 10-2 run to maintain a seven-point lead going into halftime.

TAMC, however, came out of the locker room and outscored the hosts 26-15 in the third quarter to close the gap to 59-53.

“We have a ton of respect for Texas A&M Commerce – that was a terrific win for our team head coach JD Gustin said on the UT Athletics website. “I’m proud of the way we persevered through a rough third quarter. We didn’t share the ball like we usually do or want to but we did make enough plays to get the job done.”

Utah Tech started the final quarter with a 13-2 run holding the Lions to two points for over six minutes of play.

Four Trailblazers scored in double figures and were led by Warren’s 18 points. The 5-foot-10 freshman from Lehi also pulled down eight rebounds for UT.  McCord and Gillen each recorded 17 points and McCord recorded her second double-double of the season with the game high of 13 rebounds.

Isaacson added 13 points going 4-7 on 3-pointers.

The Trailblazers will hit the road to take on Air Force Saturday, Dec. 10, before heading up the road to take on the Wildcats of Weber State Dec. 17.
