St. George Police say improper lane change might have caused crash on 700 South near River Road

ST. GEORGE — Two male drivers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries after a collision on 700 South just south of River Road Tuesday morning.

Traffic Officer Ean Williams said a white GMC Terrain SUV and a white Subaru Crossover collided at 10 a.m. He said the Terrain driver was transported with an arm injury to the St. George Regional Hospital. The driver of the Subaru was also taken to the hospital as a precaution to be examined.

“There was a white GMC Terrain and a white Subaru crossover that collided,” Williams said. “From what the witness on scene advised, it looks like the driver may have been trying to do a U-turn

“According to the occupants of the GMC, they had pulled out from the Maverik, making a right-hand turn to go back onto River Road,” Williams added. “And from the evidence on scene, it appears that they were in the process of turning from the outside lane to the inside lane, and then hit the Subaru, which was established in the inside lane.”

Williams said he cited the driver of the GMC for improperly changing lanes. The female passenger in the Suburu was checked out at the scene and released.

Williams said the occupants in the Suburu appeared to be in their 70s. He added that he still needed to speak with the driver with the arm injury.. That driver appeared to be in his 60s, Williams said.

In addition to the St. George police, the St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance were called to the scene.

This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
