Marie Andresen Hansen Nicholson

Nov. 26, 1932 — Nov. 26, 1932

Marie Nicholson was the youngest child of Wilford A. and Anna Helene Caroline Andresen Hansen. She grew up in Salt Lake City and was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Warner A. Hansen, Kerns, Keith A. Hansen, Brigham City, Neta A. Hansen Booth, Salem, Forest A. Hansen, Salt Lake City, her husband Dale and a son Kirk Dale Nicholson.

Marie was married to Dale O. Nicholson and they lived many years in Bountiful, Utah. They raised three children; two daughters and a son. Later in life, Dale and Marie moved to St. George. Years after Dale died, Marie moved to Brigham City and finally to Richfield where she spent her final days – just a few days short of her 90th birthday – at the Richfield Care Center.

Marie was incredibly bright and was an excellent student for as long as she was allowed to attend school. By the time she was a teen, Marie was expected to tend to children and clean the house to help with family finances. She had an insatiable appetite for books and reading. She worked for several years for Sam Weller in his bookstore. She was also an excellent cook – her pies were legendary. Marie had a wickedly delicious sense of humor and a one-of-a-kind melodic laugh.

Marie was spunky and spirited. She had a somewhat thin filter and said what she wanted to say when she wanted to say it. This trait was difficult for those who did not know how to separate Marie from her illness, but people adored her. She shared with stories of her German mother and taught some important lessons in life – the most valuable being that sometimes God gives us difficult children to raise, and sometimes He gives us difficult parents to be raised by.

During the last years of her life, she bemoaned getting to be so old — a fate she blamed on Jack LaLanne and his exercise regimen. During her last several months, Marie was somewhat lost and lonely and missed her children and her grandchildren terribly. She was so ready to pass from this world to the next and into the loving arms of her mother and to be reunited with her son “Kirker” and her siblings. Get ready, Grandma, here she comes.
