ST. GEORGE — Three people with mild to moderate injuries and two uninjured dogs were transported to the hospital after a rear-end collision near the construction zone near the Virgin River Gorge on Sunday evening.

Two vehicles were involved in the collision: an SUV and a pickup truck, each carrying two occupants and one dog.

Both were traveling northbound near Beaver Dam and Littlefield, Arizona, on Interstate 15. The SUV reportedly rear-ended the pickup truck at “highway speeds” at mile marker 8, Beaver Dam-Littlefield Fire Captain Ernesto Renteria said.

An 11-year-old girl in the SUV complained of pain in her abdomen and right hip and was transported to the St. George Regional Hospital with an “unharmed” dog, Renteria said. Her mother was nauseous but reportedly uninjured. The SUV sustained “expensive front-end damage.”

The two occupants in the pickup and their dog, that also was reportedly uninjured, were transported to the hospital as well, he said. The occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts and all of the air bags in the SUV deployed.

The cause of the wreck is still under investigation, Renteria said, adding that no citations have been issued at this time.

The Arizona Highway Patrol also responded to the call.
