The incident is being investigated and no arrests have been made.

St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News that the incident started when police were dispatched to what was initially reported as a domestic disturbance after an individual called authorities reporting that a woman was injured at a residence in St. George.

The officers arrived at the South Alienta Drive residence to learn that an altercation had taken place between the couple, and the man was still inside. Officers then learned there was a child and another female still inside of the residence as well. and the woman was injured.

Mitchell said the man reportedly refused to answer when officers knocked on the door.

Officers at the scene learned from talking to witnesses that there were several guns inside the home. Because of the presence of weapons and the possibility the child was in proximity to where the suspect was presumably barricaded, Mitchell said the St. George SWAT team was called to the scene.

“That’s really the safest option under those situations – for everyone involved,” she added.

A negotiator also responded and spent “quite a bit of time” during the standoff speaking with the suspect, who eventually emerged from the house and surrendered to police.

At some point, one of the officers sustained a laceration to his arm when he breached a window, and he was transported to the hospital where he received stitches to close the wound. The woman who was involved in the initial altercation also had “significant injuries,” Mitchell said, but the origin of the injuries is still being investigated.

Mitchell also said no arrests have been made, nor has anyone been charged in connection with the incident.  This is an ongoing investigation and details are limited since the scene is still active and being processed by investigators, Mitchell said.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

This is a developing story.
