A witness to the crash told responders that the driver of an eastbound Toyota Prius ran a red light and collided with a red passenger car making a left turn toward 600 West, St. George Police Lt. Choli Ence said at the scene.

Both the Prius and the red car were left inoperable from the crash and sat in the road on the east side of the 600 West intersection until being towed from the scene about 45 minutes later. Prior to their removal, the vehicles blocked traffic, which resulted in a lengthy stream of backed-up vehicles.

Waiting motorists were able to slowly begin moving through the intersection again after St. George Police officers directed traffic.

While it was not confirmed if any injuries resulted from the crash, a Gold Cross Ambulance left the scene with lights and sirens activated.

The crash scene was cleared by 8 p.m.

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
