Trailblazers football: Utah Tech tangles with WAC foe Tarleton State in home finale on Saturday

ST. GEORGE — The Trailblazers are on a roll and hope to keep it going.

The football team at Utah Tech has won consecutive games and looks to close out its home schedule in style Saturday afternoon when they play Tarleton State at 1 p.m. in Greater Zion Stadium.

According to a press release, Utah Tech is 1-2 all-time against the Texans.

The Trailblazers scorched Southern Utah for 603 total yards in last week’s 48-36 homecoming victory. A week before that, Utah Tech shocked No. 19 Stephen F. Austin 47-44 to win its first Western Athletic Conference game of the season.

Saturday afternoon Utah Tech will look to continue the positive mojo in its home and WAC season finale.

UT wide receiver Joey Hobert leads the WAC with 12 touchdown receptions.

Hobert leads the team with six 100-yard games and became the program’s second wide receiver in the NCAA era to post over 1,000 yards in a season after the SFA win (1,018 yards).

Meanwhile, sophomore running back Quali Conley ran for a career-best 155 yards against Southern Utah and became the third player in program history to surpass 1,400 career rushing yards (1,482). And he leads the team with seven rushing touchdowns.

Utah Tech (3-6) and Tarleton State (5-4) are both 1-2 in WAC play.

Fans can listen to “The Drive” on The Fan Sports Network Friday morning from 7-9 to hear a preview of the game by Devin Dixon and Utah Tech defensive lineman Justin Kirkland.

And the game will be broadcast by The Fan Sports Network featuring Rod Zundel and Jay Schroeder starting at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
