Police: Failure to yield results in collision near Utah Tech campus

ST. GEORGE — Failure to yield at a stop sign led to a two-car collision near Greater Zion Stadium Wednesday evening.

The call went out a little before 5 p.m. reporting the incident at 700 East 600 S. Two cruisers from the St. George Police Department arrived on the scene. Fire department and ambulance personnel were not needed as the collision occurred at low speed and there were no injuries.

Police officers responding to the call told St. George News that a white passenger car was in the intersection at 600 South preparing for a left turn onto 700 East.

For whatever reason, officers said, the driver of the passenger car did not see any traffic and proceeded to take the turn, directly into the path of an oncoming red Lexus driving northbound on 700 East.

Traffic flow was not greatly disturbed as the drivers assessed the damage to their cars and sorted out the details.

Both vehicles were eventually towed away. Officers said a citation would be issued for failure to yield at a stop sign.

This report is based on comments by police personnel and may not include the full scope of the findings.
