Vernon L. Hill

Vernon L. Hill, 97, passed away Oct. 30, 2022. Vern was born May 26, 1925, in Phoenix, Arizona, to James Henry Hill and Sarah Emily Pearce Hill. Before his Missionary service to Czechoslovakia (1947-50), he lived with his family in Arizona, Oregon and California.

He met and married Janice Rene Heeder in Pasadena, California, and their marriage was solemnized in the St. George Temple in 1954. After serving a second mission as a senior couple to the Czech Republic (1992-94) with Jan, they settled in St George, Utah. He and Jan were involved with the Heritage Choir and Tuacahn. Jan passed away in 2009. In 2011 he married Vilda Ronnow at St George. Vilda passed in 2015. 

Vern was a school administrator and renowned educator, teaching seventh and eighth grades at the Chandler School in Pasadena for nearly 40 years. At his retirement, a building at the school was named in his honor. He was an active member of The Christ of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and sang in the Southern California Mormon Choir. Vern was an accomplished linguist, artist, actor, writer, gourmet chef and world traveler. He loved parties and games; everything was more fun when Vern was involved.

He is survived by his daughter Debra (Bruce); grandsons Brandon (Rebecca), Christopher (Rachel) and Jameson (Ashley); and great-grandchildren James, Olivia, Kate, Ethan, Eleanor and Henry. 

Funeral services will be held in Alpine, Utah, on Friday, Nov. 11, at 11:30 a.m. in the Paradise Branch LDS Chapel located at 165 North 100 East. A viewing will be held Friday prior to the services, from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be held in St. George on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1:30 p.m. in Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S. Dixie Drive.
